What usually goes wrong with a pitman arm nut is the pitman arm will be forced to open and climbs the tapered splines. However, the nut will stay in its location so it looks like the nut came loose. 


This upgrade will use all of the threads on the shaft with a surface hardened chromoly nut to be torqued to 500 ft lbs instead of 400 ft lbs. It is acceprable for this nut to be below the end of the threads on the sector shaft. 
The shaft is good to over 1000 ft lbs but the factory nut metal and width is only good for 400 ft lbs before it pulls the threads out of the nut.
With stock arms and nuts on stock trucks, we see loose pitman arm nuts causing death wobble all the time due to the arm climbing the tapered spline.
